Materials
We regularly cut plywood, MDF, acrylic and selected sheet materials. If you are supplying your own material, please let us know the exact type and thickness.
File Requirements
We require a clean 2D vector file for all laser cutting work. If you are working in 3D software, please export a 2D drawing at 1:1 scale.
Preferred formats
- PDF (vector, 1:1 scale)
- DXF
- EPS
We recommend sending a PDF version in addition to your working file so we can confirm scale and geometry before cutting.
Before sending your file
- Set artwork to 1:1 scale (full size)
- Remove duplicate or overlapping lines
- Convert text to outlines
- Indicate material thickness and quantity required
- Note any critical dimensions or tolerances
We can’t cut directly from native 3D model files (e.g. .3dm). Please export a 2D vector drawing.

The Model Shop | Architectural model makers
-
We make ideas tangible.
Founded in 2010, The Model Shop was built on a simple belief: when people can see and touch a project, they understand it.
What began in founder Ben Croudace’s architectural practice — noticing how much more engaged clients became when presented with a physical scale model — has grown into a specialist model-making studio trusted by developers, architects and project teams across Australia.
Today, we combine craftsmanship, technology and experience to produce architectural models, trade show displays, developer marketing models, ship models, art projects and more. Architecture is our foundation, and over more than a decade we’ve continually refined our processes, tools and skills to deliver exceptional quality every time.
-
Clarity
A great model brings everything to the table.
Drawings, renders and plans are powerful — but a physical model creates instant clarity. It removes ambiguity, aligns stakeholders, and allows everyone to see the same vision at the same time.
Models don’t just explain projects. They bring them to life.
-
Customer engagement
When people understand, they engage.
Selling or presenting a project before it’s built comes with inherent uncertainty. Clients can struggle to visualise scale, proportion and context — and that gap can slow decisions.
A physical model bridges that gap. It builds confidence, invites conversation and turns passive viewers into active participants. When your audience can clearly grasp what you’re proposing, they’re far more likely to say yes.
-
Trust
Clarity builds trust.
When stakeholders can see exactly what they’re investing in, uncertainty fades. A tangible, well-crafted model demonstrates care, precision and commitment to quality — before construction even begins.
At The Model Shop, we help you create that moment of certainty.
And when people feel certain, business moves forward.
